Fuchsite is a mineral named after the German mineralogist Johann Nepomuk von Fuchs. It forms in metamorphic rocks and is common in malacacheta deposits associated with biotite, dolomites and marble. The biggest and best deposits continue to be those in Austria and the Italian Alps of Tyrol. It also has deposits in other regions of Italy, in the Ural Mountains of Russia and in Brazil, although no specimen comes close to the quality of Austrian crystals.

This crystal belongs to the silicate class and is a green muscovite variety for its high chromium content. They are presented in hexagonal shaped sheets and originate from metamorphic rocks, such as gneisses, slates, mica schist, and cornea.
